What is FA?

Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) is a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuromuscular disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the United States have Friedreich’s ataxia.

What is FARA?

The Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) is a national, public, 501(c) (3), non-profit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to the pursuit of scientific research leading to treatments and a cure for Friedreich’s ataxia. FARA’s Mission is to marshal and focus the resources and relationships needed to cure FA by raising funds for research, promoting public awareness, and aligning scientists, patients, clinicians, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies and other organizations dedicated to curing FA and related diseases.

Meet Gavin

Gavin Lambert introduced FARA to the Tampa Bay Kids Triathlon (TBKT) having valiantly participated in the event since its inception in 2013. While he is no longer able to compete, Gavin does not let his battle with Friedreich’s Ataxia compromise his ability to motivate others to always FINISH. Gavin and his family attend the TBKT annually to pass out medals while being a shining light to those who battle the same disease. Over the years, the TBKT and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission have continued to support Gavin and help raise awareness for FA by renaming the finish line the “GAVIN LAMBERT FINISH LINE” and designating the Fredreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance the triathlon’s first-ever beneficiary, donating a portion of the proceeds to help find a cure.

Be introduced to our friend Gavin, here.
